Installing a new asphalt driveway or updating your current driveway is an important decision to make carefully. This makes it important to choose the right contractors to do the work for you. That’s where Mid State Asphalt comes in. We work hard to provide our clients with unrivaled service and quality.

Planning/Quoting: Every project starts with communicating with our client to see what they need done. We assess your property, work with you to decide what you need, and deliver you a competitive quote. Getting a quote is as easy as calling us and setting up an assessment.

Clear the area for construction: Once we have a plan and price agreed upon with our client, we start clearing the construction site. This includes clearing any previously laid asphalt or concrete so we can install the sub-base, and then the asphalt surface. We take the debris from clearing your former asphalt installation and recycle it, ensuring sustainability.

Grading:  Grading and sloping are incredibly important to the structural integrity of your driveway. An improperly graded driveway is prone to harboring water, cracking, and eventually total degradation. Don’t let your driveway be a wasteful investment! Build it correctly the first time.

Laying a Sub-Base Layer: The sub-base of your driveway protects your asphalt from the elements. During the winter months, frost can sneak into gaps in asphalt and expand, causing cracks that lead to more damage. An asphalt installation lacking a good sub-base can settle and create an uneven surface. A properly installed sub-base prevents all these issues.

We use crushed rock or recycled asphalt for our sub-base depending on various factors around the construction. After laying the sub-base layer, we compact it to ensure it does not settle or allow frost to penetrate the driving surface. When preparing the sub-base, we also take into account the need for surfaces to support higher load weights.

Base Course Layer:  Following the sub-base, we install the base course layer. This layer serves the purpose of binding the sub-base to the wear course layer. To install this layer, our workers place and compact asphalt binding agents to prepare the surface for the wear course layer.

You’ll never drive on the base course layer of your driveway, but you’d certainly notice if it wasn’t installed with care. It sets up the final layer of asphalt for success. Improperly installed base course results in an uneven driving surface, and takes years off your installation’s life.

Wear Course Layer: Finally, the surface you’ll park your car on. The wear course layer is the asphalt that you see on roads, parking lots, and driveways.

Small crushed rock, sand, and liquid asphalt binder make up this layer. The crushed rock and sand make the mixture strong. The asphalt binder holds it all together and makes the mixture weather proof.

Integration – Butt Joints, Transitions, Curbing: Odds are, you’re not installing a driveway totally isolated from other driving surfaces. Clean transitions from existing construction make your property look better, and give you a smooth driving surface. Mid State Asphalt is always thorough in planning transitions from our construction to existing surfaces.
